Explicit Modelling of the Ignition Transient Structural Response of a Paraffin Wax Hybrid Rocket Motor Fuel Grain

Paraffin wax has been identified as a hybrid rocket motor fuel, which offers enhanced regression rates and improved combustion performance. While various investigations into the performance of this class fuels are being conducted around world, consideration its structural is often overlooked. The research presented here establishes simplified, yet accurate method defining paraffin fuel grain to be introduced early in design phase motor. use Johnson–Cook (J–C) material model verified work within “low speed” ignition range experienced wax/N2O motors, therefore used predict failure variety motors. resultant stress profiles grains indicate that outer inner diameter (OD/ID) ratio, well (OD) itself, play an important role ability withstand loading conditions applied. Additionally, properties, stiffness chamber affect severity internal stresses grain. feasibility large-scale pure without enhancement additives thus found poor. Fuel should considered for enhancement.
